good game
mixed feelings about this one: Great graphics. Some parts even fun to explore and play. However, at some points (Way, way too many for an AAA game) the gameplay is just clunky and untested. Timings feel way off. Then there are some boss fights designed so poorly that I am sure no testing was allowed. No critisism of the designer tolerated. The result: An unplayable mess. Just stay away from this one.
Incredibly badly optimized, crashes all the time and the characters are boring. I never feel like caring what happens to anyone. Luckily I don't have to climb to any towers here, just to get fast travel points on my map, since the hideout system makes them largely irrelevant and are much better located for fast travel purposes anyway. Other than that, it's hard to find anything positive. It's pretty I guess and weather effects are quite good. It could be "Better-than-Valhalla"-level of game, but before they fix the crashes and slowly degrading framerates during the gameplay, I don't see any reason to waste time on AC Shadows. EDIT (19.10.2025): Crashes got a lot fewer once I lowered the ray tracing settings. Framerates are still bad and will get lower during my gameplay (doesn't matter which settings I am using). But at least it works now. I have nVidia RTX5090, AMD 9950X3D and 192GB of system ram, all installed on m.2 SSD drives. So the system specs shouldn't be a limiting factor for game to work well.
its assassins creed but in japan idk what yall expected 6/10

An excellent game in many aspects, it runs and plays well. The amount of historical detail is impressive, especially the architecture. The mechanics of changing seasons is also something that has to be mentioned. The stealth is the best I've seen, if set to the highest difficulty. The combat is decent but not as good as similar games like Ghost of Tsushima. And most of intrusive visual and HUD elements can be disabled. The devs and artists involved in the project definitely don't deserve the hate.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is a masterclass in game design, weaving together stunning visuals, addictive combat, and an immersive open world that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The game's narrative is expertly crafted, with complex characters and a gripping storyline that explores the Assassin Brotherhood's struggles in feudal Japan. The combat system is incredibly responsive, allowing for a wide range of creative and deadly takedowns. The addition of new mechanics, such as the ability to climb and traverse through buildings, adds a fresh layer of depth to the gameplay. The open world is breathtakingly beautiful, with meticulously designed environments that transport you to ancient Japan. From the bustling streets of Kyoto to the serene landscapes of the countryside, every location is rich in detail and atmosphere. The game's attention to historical detail is also noteworthy, with a clear commitment to authenticity and accuracy. Whether you're exploring the castles of samurai lords or infiltrating enemy camps, the game's world feels lived-in and authentic. - Immersive Open World: Explore ancient Japan in stunning detail, from the bustling streets of Kyoto to the serene landscapes of the countryside. - Addictive Combat: Take down enemies with creative and deadly takedowns, using a wide range of stealth and combat abilities. - Gripping Narrative: Uncover the secrets of the Assassin Brotherhood in feudal Japan, with a complex and engaging storyline. - Stunning Visuals: Breathtakingly beautiful environments and characters bring the game to life in stunning detail. Overall, Assassin's Creed Shadows is a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike. Its engaging gameplay, immersive world, and gripping narrative make it an unforgettable experience. Don't miss out on this masterpiece of game design!"
I've really been enjoying this game so far, even though I'm not the furthest in.
After dedicating 200 hours to this game, I can confidently say it's well worth the time. The story is consistently engaging, especially with Yasuke and Naoe's individual arcs. The voice acting could use some polish, but it's far from terrible. Combat is fluid and requires strategic play, setting it apart from earlier titles. The parkour system is a notable upgrade, featuring new mechanics like prone movement and a grappling hook for environmental traversal. The weapons are unique, each offering distinct perks, abilities, and finishers. My main issue is Ubisoft's choice of a fog of war-style map, which complicates exploration in feudal Japan's complex terrains. Despite this, I'd give the game an 8 out of 10, mainly due to minor issues with voice acting and the map design. Overall, it's a well-made game, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for the Assassin's Creed series.

one of the better ac games in recent years.
First time Assasins Creed player, but pleasantly surprised, although everything is pretty familiar for any Far Cry fans. Anyway: gorgeous game (although not as vibrant as, ehm, other recent AAA entries in the "open-world feudal Japan" category), with an actually-engaging story (unlike, well, those other games). Some novel mechanics, like meditation (a soothing rhythm-based activity with bonus flashback scenes), scouts (although I never really got the hang of that), as well as a bunch of mumbo-jumbo about (de-)synchronization, "Memories" and "the Guide" that I don't quite get either (and had to quit out of several of these missions as the objective was entirely elusive), but, hey... Bonus is that the game is actually educational: geography, shrine etiquette, tea ceremonies, tons of history, provided you care to read all the codex entries. You get to play two distinct personas: a nimble ninja (never realized that the flowing lines of Japanese architecture are so amenable to parcouring up!) as well as a tanky samurai (but, don't worry, he can climb up to viewpoints too and the conviently-placed hay heaps break his fall just, ehhh, enough, which is good, as he is a bit more unsteady). It makes for a nice change and allows you to alternately (even rather seamlessly) explore various playstyles, which is a good thing, because although the map is huge, the activities to be found there are not very varied, and once the initial novelty wears off, things get tedious very quickly. Like when you discover that most castles and such are straight off the very same IKEA catalog page... Not quite boring enough to abandon the main story entirely, which fortunately does not require too much progression outside of it, but the mid-game slog is by far the biggest weakness of this title (and, judging by the steep drop-off in players that achieve the end of part 1 vs part 2, that's a game-problem, not a me-problem...). The game is very open-ended (a.k.a. vague, but, hey, there's a whole Internet these days containing all the guides you need, oh, and a game mode), which is OK up to a point, but the virtual world is not always up to the ambitious goals of its designers. Like, I need to get some silk, and I'm on a pirate ship that cleary has some of that on deck -- I mean, I'm looking right at it! However, I can't get it, because the game insists I should be on the other nearby ship, where the developers have placed the requisite chest to actually give me the loot. And, yeah, I understand why this is, but still... Also, there is just way too much stuff to collect: it just leads to FOMO (just one more legendary chest to loot!), but, wait, do I actually need 20 katana, each with slightly different stats? No, in fact, I do not, and cutting down on all those diversions, while introducing more stuff that actually matters would greatly improve the situation. Finally: the forced Ubisoft account nonsense has always made it annoying to start their games, but this time around actually actively spoils the experience since it places 'community photos' on the map by default. So, yeah, you're searching for someone. Where could they be? Maybe at the spot where several other players-that-you-don't-know-and-don't-want-to-know left their graffiti? Nah, surely not... And then you get several kinds of pointless points that you can spend in some kind of superfluous 'store' for some unnecessary reasons, in addition to all the complexity that is already in the game. Please! Just. Stop. It! If I want to be on Facetube or Youbook, I'll just go there!
Terrible performance on an RTX 4070, it stutters in frames. It's a shame they don't optimize the games well. Don't buy it, don't waste your time and money on this garbage.
Honestly I held back from buying this game because of the reviews, but its my first Assassin's Creed game, and frankly I thoroughly enjoy it. The game is well optimised *cough (Ark I'm looking at you) and is beautiful. As just taking it for what it is, running around as an Assassin in feudal Japan killing people is great. The missions can feel a little repetitive, so the reviews aren't wrong there but if you're just looking for a game to relax and feel cool in. This is it.
