    Do I like the game? Kind of. I've spent a lot of time playing it so giving it a thumbs down would be strange. Also the settings is easily my favorite historic time period (yeah I like samurais, I'm original like that) and that makes me more lenient towards the game. And there is a lot to like. The game looks stunning. The combat is crisp. The enemies are not hp-spongey. The ninja and samurai playstyles couldn't be more distinct and both feel good to play. Completing castles feels good too - either storming in and killing everyone as a samurai, or stealthing around and picking the targets as a ninja. The target lists / assassin boards are ok. There is quite a bit of them and they are accompanied with a light story bits. It can get a bit tedious the more you do it, but it's fine for the most parts. But there is also quite a bit to be dissapointed in. The open world activites are simply not fun. There are two QTE activities that are as boring as it can get. Then there is pick x scrolls / pray at x shrines and again it's just boring. The horse archery is the least bad, but it's still nothing to be excited about. Just a note here, all of these activities have an unskippable animation at some point and it will eventually make your blood boil, I'm sure of it. The world is big, but there is nothing outside of the roads. I remember the first time I climbed a hill, because why not, it's an open world game, right? And there was absolutely nothing there. Not on any of the hills, unless there was a road leading there. To be honest, the game fights quite hard against such stupid ideas as exploring of the beaten paths. There is this long slide-down animation that almost discouraged me from doing it. But there is also a skyrim horse that gets up almost any slope no matter how steep. And so I climbed and found the same nothing every time. I'm not a big on base building, on arranging and decorating in such a detail Shadows allow. Luckily the end result looked satisfactory enough most of the time, so I largely just slapped the buildings together and was done with it. But the game's whole economy revolves about the base building and it just made it pointless to engage with it. Well, not the whole economy, but a good chunk of it. The second half of the economy is about upgrading gear and honestly that felt just as pointless. The story was structured kind of like Valhalla, which a lot of people didn't like, but it's even worse in Shadows. In Valhalla some of the characters get more spotlight and it made all the difference. In Shadows the story is shattered into such a small loosely connected pieces you don't have enough time to start to care about anyone. The villains are plain, because they don't have enough time to shine. The supporting cast gets the same treatment. The allies have absolutely no substance and they somehow feel even worse than the villains / supporting cast. It feels like they were just glued to the game somehow. The historical figures are here just for a blink of an eye. All the three Japan unifiers appear so briefly it feels almost insulting. Yes, Oda gets more screen time than the other two and he is quite charismatic, but it's not much. I don't dislike the protagonist duo, but I can't say I love them either. Maybe splitting the main character in two serves the gameplay well, but it hurts the narrative I'd say. Or maybe have a protagonist duo, but don't pretend the game is an RPG and make it an action adventure. I would recommend the game only if you like ninjas/samurais and action games with solid combat. But it definitely feels like the worst of the open world Assassin's Creeds. Early this year I played Rise of the Ronin and the games easily blows Shadows out of the water in everything but the visuals and time period.
    If you like stealth game play in AC then playing Shadows as Naoe is great fun. I'm 50 hrs into it, taking my time and enjoying the game. Graphics are great too.
    This game is sh!t. Ubisoft continues to spit in the face of the minuscule amount of invested ac fans they still have. They are the masters of missed opportunities and drop the ball on absolutely everything. An ac game set in japan should have been a home run, and it probably would have been if it were made 10-15 years earlier. Back before the company became a slop generator. Why the fvxk are they drip-feeding us ASSASSINS CREED in a video game called ASSASSINS CREED?? The main focus of these games should be on 1. MAIN PROTAGONISTS (ASSASSINS) vs MAIN ANTAGONISTS (TEMPLARS) 2. A Modern Day Story 3. Something Isu related I don’t understand why it’s such a hard ask. Where an ac game is 0.01% AC and 99.9% Bloat, its like the entire identity that WAS assassins creed is just fan service or easter eggs, its ridiculous. These games have been anything but assassins creed since they dropped the disrespectful, spit in the face, lore breaking bullsh!t that was odyssey. Writing has been horrible, uninteresting, boring, corny, robotic, and awkward. I'm so fvxking tired of this franchise. I have been the most dedicated fan since the early games. I’m only here for what it once was, not for what it is. I think it’s time to let go. I'm so tired. There's no hope for this franchise.
    I very much enjoyed the setting and how the world feels alive with everything from the sound of snow under your feet and how light plays with the environment as the time of day and the seasons change. Castles still feel over-sized next to their surrounding cities, but they're well made in that they feel distinctly different and nobody *actually* wants life sized cities anyway; such a city in a game would be tedious beyond belief. However, the game is constantly reminding you how there are two completely separate characters by not only offering the choice to switch between them but actively forcing you to do so in order to interact with different quests and objectives. Their stories came together in a surprising way that made sense but their main quests were a constant reminder that these are two completely different characters with two completely different and incompatible playstyles, of which only one had any business being in an AC game. Focusing the entire game on Naoe and her story, while also completely cutting the present day stuff that's by far the worst in the whole series, would probably have made the game feel a lot more coherent. Thankfully, combat difficulty can be dialed down, assassinations can be made to be guaranteed instead of having opponents nonsensically survive getting a blade through their head, and the pointless and drawn-out "kata" mechanic (that doesn't even work because the game simply ignores shift+click) can be automated via the difficulty settings. Overall, this makes the game far less annoying so you can enjoy the sandbox sneaking stuff and the story. You know... AC. The result is a game that's easily one of my favorite AC games, but only because they're all flawed in one way or the other.

    i really tried, i just cant finish this game, its so empty feeling yet bloated with repetitive mindless content, and exploring feudal japan feels more like a chore than enjoyment, not to mention the performance is pretty bad.
    I give this game two awards: 1. Best looking game I’ve played to date. 2. Most boring game I’ve played to date. I cannot recommend due to lack of value for money. Grab it at a deep discount and use it as a tool to test your graphics card.
    Pretty much everything this game tries to do feels better in Ghost of Tsushima. But the biggest and most annoying issue for me was... your character doesn't face or move towards where you point the camera. The over-the-shoulder perspective is off compared to every other AC, or third-person game, for that matter. If you put a wall at the center of your screen and run straight towards it, you won't hit it dead-on, you'll be a couple persons' widths left, making any degree of fluid parkour frustratingly difficult to achieve.
    Not sure why there’s so much hate for this game — it’s honestly one of the best Assassin’s Creed titles yet. The story is engaging, the gameplay feels fresh, and the world is stunning. If you’re a true Assassin’s Creed fan, you’ll definitely appreciate this one. Don’t let the negativity stop you — give it a try and judge for yourself.

    When I started the game, I hated it. 5 Hours Cut scenes, way to many cut scenes with characters you're not attached to with bad emotional acting. 20 Hours The game starts FINALLY feeling kinda fun. Missions are interesting, story is pretty engaging and lots of side activities. The world is beautiful, one of the best I've seen to be honest. The graphics are very nice but mostly the world scenery is just gorgeous. 60 hours + Im absolutely hooked and find myself fearing the end to come. - The side missions don't feel repetitive like the other games and discovering new areas or just beatiful backdrops and natural environments is still so rewarding. - The combat is fun, though it's not a challenge like darksouls. The fighting is very familiar to AC Odyssey, I like it but wish it was a little more skill based. - The story has reeled me in and I never know which direction to go as I want to do them all. You get to choose to chase down elite members or many organizations and get rewarded for individuals and completing the whole set. - Quest choice is nice. Sometimes I want to keep hunting certain groups down but I keep getting side tracked by all the new option's. It's not "grindy" feeling, unless you're just hunting for resources for gear upgrades. 80 hours + Just leave me alone, I want to get back to taking screenshots of waterfall overlooks and random beautiful rivers with cherry blossom tree's in the middle of a mountain.

    I really enjoyed this japan story, beautiful graphics and a lot of things you can do including such as painting animals or the mountains, recruit scouts and obviosly the side quests and besides that there's a lot more. If you are into new AC games and japan then i recommend this game for you
