Claws of Awaji was the best part of this game
the only game with assassin in the name where it forces you to not play an assassin.when i play this game i wanna be sneaky and stealthy and this game forces you to sit out in the open and fight people like its open world mortal kombat. i hate playing as the samurai character and hate boss battles where you have to widdle them down for 45 min cause its impossible to hide after you attempt one assassination
Recommended, but with reservations. First off I feel like I'm in the movie inception. At one point you are in a memory (the animus - a completely useless plot construct we are just stuck with now I guess) where the character has a memory during meditation where she learns how to mediate and has another memory. I literally broke out laughing. I don't hate the story, but I have started to just spam the space bar because I'm tired of watching a movie. Some movie aspect, okay fine. A lot of movie time ... I'm starting to get bored and I just want to play a game. Every long running TV series will eventually have a musical episode to cater to the ego of creators and it seems for games the equivalent is that every long running game series will eventually have a 3.5 hour movie embedded inside of it. Second. Playing as a samurai is terrible. It's not fun in the slightest. I can't even be bothered to remember the poor guy's name. I put the difficulty on story mode and just wade through that part to get it over with. There is nothing fun about the combat as a samurai at all. He's a lumbering tank and even if one enjoys lumbering tanks, the combat options and the 'strategy' are so limited, it's just not fun. So, ya, I'm having fun playing as Naoe. She's skilled, but fragile so you have to play carefully, run away a lot, and use stealth and I can see it's going to take quite a while to finish it so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth, but I really hate the samurai game play and the movie aspect, is just too much. With skipping and game difficulty settings to push past the samurai parts, the game still remains fun thankfully.
Overall Impression
This game is only worth recommending to those who just want to roam around Japan and explore. The gameplay is overloaded with side activities and a weak, unfinished main story that ends suddenly, with the “real” ending apparently locked behind a paid DLC. Nevertheless, I still somehow enjoyed it, and after playing something else, I’ll probably come back to finish the DLC hopefully at a discount, since, according to most reviews, it’s unfairly overpriced.
Movement and Controls
For a game so focused on stealth, the movement system is surprisingly clunky. Climbing, sneaking, or entering windows often leads to your character doing the wrong thing, breaking immersion and causing frustration, especially during stealth sections. Even after my first 20 hours, the controls felt unreliable.
Side Content and World Design
At first, exploring the world and completing side quests feels engaging, but it quickly becomes overwhelming. You clear a few missions, and the game buries you under dozens of others. What could’ve been meaningful side stories often turn into more kill lists.
Visuals and Atmosphere
The changing seasons are a great visual touch, they don’t add much to gameplay, but make the world feel alive and dynamic. It’s satisfying to see the same areas shift through different seasons.
Character Customization
Customization is one of the game’s highlights. You can personalize outfits, weapons, and its parts with solid depth. It doesn’t fix the game’s larger issues and the story, but for me it’s a genuinely enjoyable feature.
Dual-Character Gameplay
The ability to switch between two characters adds gameplay variety. Naoe is designed for stealth, while Yasuke fot direct combats. When stealth gets repetitive, switching to Yasuke for a full-on assault keeps the experience fresh.
Final Verdict
While there are some bright spots like the seasonal visuals, customization, and dual gameplay but they can’t fully redeem the game’s repetitive structure, clumsy movement, and underwhelming story. If you’re choosing between this and Ghost of Tsushima, pick Tsushima every time.
Really enjoyed the game. The environment, weather and season change mechanic was insanely immersive. Stealth is also one of the best in the series, but the only thing lacking to me was the storytelling, it could’ve been better. Other than that a very solid game
The game is okay but not really groundbreaking. For me it feels too long and it drags itself out so much. What I liked about the game: - good performance and visual fidelity out of the box. I had absolutely 0 issues regarding FPS drops or anything like that and I could start the game with the recommended graphic settings. - generally good visuals and very well optimized. You get good visuals even if you are not on the highest end of hardware. - stealth gameplay is as you would expect. I don't like stealth games generally but I think that is good and well made if you are into that (But of course that is to be expected given Ubisoft previous experience with their franchise) - RPG Elements and the dialogues are nice when you play in Japanese Dub What I didn't like: - Combat 1o1 or 1v2. Reading the enemys movement is not well done. Instead of being able to react naturally to how enemies swinging their weapons, this feels like it is not possible in this game. Instead you need to remember the attack combo, reading it after the first swing. Example: the big Brute enemys with the mace. They have an attack where they hit you with a downward swing. If you dodge and stay near them, they will combo it with a upward or side swing. This swing is so difficult to read, that I basically always got immediately hit when the enemy started the swing instead of when the attack would actually land. This is what I mean with that. In other games like in Rise of the Ronin or even in Ghost of Tsushima, it was way way better scripted and felt more natural to get a combat flow without knowing every single enemy attack in advance. - Progression and Rewards: I played over 10 hours, but it does not feel rewarding at all. You get some skills, yes, but it's just not enough and not exciting at all. Throw a Kunai faster? Deplete 1 additional heatlhbar with an assasination? Get 10% adrenalin when dodging? Does that sound exciting? Can we maybe get something better that actually changes or makes the gameplay more exciting when you finally have it? I don't know man. It feels like the most damage and defense gain you get is just from leveling. What about another combat stance for Naoe? Making her more tanky, if we want to play that way with her? - Female Character design. Please Make the female Characters more attractive and let us change the protagonist in a kind of Character customization. It is not as bad as Ghost of Tsushima, but look at the NPC's and companions in Rise of the Ronin. They look way better and are more attractive. And guess what? Making them more attractive spices up the gameplay. Giving players reason to progress the romance options etc. If they are not attractive, why would I make the effort to romance a character? Conclusion: If you have a lot of time to kill and focus more on visual fidelity instead of gameplay, than this could be for you. This game is a literal time-killer. My personal conclusion is, that I don't want to spend 30 hours in a game to find the "fun" part. I am an adult, I can't commit to play over 1-2 hours at times. This game gives you so little for the time you put in. Yes the graphics are good. But give me good gameplay and better rewards quicker. Its just not enough for me to recommend. I don't want to play for an hour to be able to throw a kunai faster.
pretty cool game much better than assassins creed valhalla and the graghics are amazing would recomend

I'm 30 hours in and I'm thoroughly enjoying this game, more so than any other in the franchise for the last three iterations. I've played AC Valhalla - boring as hell (beautiful vistas though); Odyssey was great but incredibly long winded, and Origins was a lot of fun, and AC Mirage felt like the beginnings of a good game but a very generic story - almost as if the dev team were 'learning their feet' so to speak. This game has something that none of those other games have. You ACTUALLY feel like an assassin; a trained killer. For the first half of the game, you feel like a quick and nimble shinobi-no-mono and that's exactly what an assassin's creed game needs to feel like. I'm not going to say this game is 10/10, but it's a solid 7.5/10 definitely better than all the others so far, save for Unity, Brotherhood and AC1 and 2
Buggy mess, constant loading. To be clear, my computer is very good and the game does not come close to half my performance especially since i tried to play with the performance settings but it still loads constantly and takes forever especially in cutscenes for some reason. subtitles dont show up in time often and some text stays permanently on screen untill you restart the game. it is rather beautifull though and i belive the problems can be fixed later. I would reccomend buing it if there is a good sale at the moment and pray ubisoft fix one of their games for once.
If you've played AC in the past 10 years and liked it, you'll like this game because it's the same thing.
easily the best assassins creed in the rpg style because you can actually play as an assassin in this one. music is also bonkers. i was gonna get all the achievements but then they added a bs achievement in an update so nah
